About the repository of the Anaemia Action Alliance
The main purpose of developing and maintaining the Anaemia Action Alliance's digital repository is to facilitate access to comprehensive and reliable information, evidence-based resources, and practical tools to assist leaders and programme managers within governments and their partners, non-governmental organisations, philanthropic foundations, researchers, and advocates in implementing priority anaemia strategies and actions and accelerate progress towards reducing all forms of anaemia globally.
Objectives and scope
To enhance understanding of anaemia as a key indicator of health
To improve the accessibility of resources to support the implementation of actions to address anaemia comprehensively
Promote multisectoral research and innovation
Type of information stored in the repository
- Technical documents
Technical reports, guidelines, manuals, country profiles and frameworks that support the implementation of actions to reduce anaemia - Scientific publications
Key peer-reviewed articles or journal series, books, and papers. Information resources should correspond to accepted, published, or updated versions - Primary research data
Links to open databases (e.g. open-access datasets such as Demographic and Health Surveys) relevant to anaemia research.
The following materials will not be accepted into the repository:
- Administrative documents
- Work in progress
- Journalistic notes
- Individual research trials
- Content not available in the public domain, accessible to all
All content in the repository will redirect to its original download source.
How the repository's resources are organised
DATA
INTERVENTIONS
The repository features information about interventions that target both the causes and risk factors for anaemia, organized by sector. It includes anaemia policies and strategies that cover various sectors, which have been grouped for filtering into:
- Labour, Trade & Industry
- Health & Nutrition
- Food & Agriculture
- Education
- Water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH)
- Social protection
SERVICE DELIVERY
Coordination among the appropriate implementing sectors is critical. In some cases, interventions can be integrated into existing delivery platforms or programmes. Other situations may require increased coordination with complementary interventions, or simply the co-location of interventions and service delivery.
Common systems of monitoring and evaluation will help ensure the quality and coverage of interventions, reduce fragmentation, track progress and optimize the impact of each intervention.
The Alliance repository provides examples of anaemia-related interventions delivered through existing structures and programmes. It also includes resources on other inputs required for implementation (e.g. facilities, trained health workers, health system characteristics and capacity, funding).
LEADERSHIP
RESEARCH
Research, learning and innovation
Research and learning have led to significant improvements in preventing, diagnosing and managing anaemia. Because the reach of current interventions may be inadequate, implementation research will be useful to determine how best to increase this reach.
The Alliance will strive to gather information on the effectiveness of multisectoral anaemia programs and share it via the repository. It will also seek to collect information on innovations such as women-centred diagnostics and solutions for anaemia.
Who is curating the documents of the repository?
Alliance partners establish a designated committee to review material and advise on inclusion. Recommended material must be approved by WHO, in close coordination with UNICEF.
Who is responsible for maintaining the repository?
The Alliance Secretariat will be responsible for liaising with the webmaster responsible for uploading content, maintaining the functionality of search features (includes maintaining links to source materials when partners migrate webpages), and generating reports on search activity using analytics tools.
